Welcome to the Courage to Change Program
at Salt Lake Behavioral Health

Salt Lake Behavioral Health’s Courage to Change Addiction Medicine Program can help you stabilize from addiction, learn strategies for recovery, and connect to a long-term recovery community. With education and group therapy, we can help you understand the disease model of addiction and set up recovery strategies to meet your situation and needs. Our primary treatment modality is Seeking Safety, which can help you recognize the substance abuse cycle you’ve been living through so you can progress into recovery. The multi-disciplinary staff at Salt Lake Behavioral Health is comprised of experienced physicians, nurses and counselors who are dedicated to helping you change your life. With a board-certified addictionologist and masters-level clinicians specially trained in addiction medicine, the Courage to Change Addiction Medicine Program can help you develop the strength and the techniques to walk the road to recovery.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

    Seeks to help you recognize, avoid, and cope with the situations in which you are most likely to abuse substances.

  • Specialized Program For Active Duty Military & Veterans

    As a TRICARE® and Veteran’s Choice provider, we tailor individualized treatment in the areas of addiction, dual diagnosis, depression, anxiety and other psychiatric and substance abuse programs for service members, veterans, and military families.

  • Individual & Group Therapy

    Helps you face your substance abuse realistically, come to terms with its harmful consequences and boost your motivation to stay sober and clean.

  • Additional Services
    • Medical detoxification & addiction management (Suboxone®, Vivitrol®, etc.)
    • Substance Abuse Rehabilitation program
    • Specialized Dual Diagnosis program that can treat both addiction and trauma (when needed) in a secure environment
    • Treatment and care for medically compromised patients (e.g., CPAP patients, oxygen issues, etc.)
  • Motivational Interviewing

    Employs strategies to evoke rapid and internally motivated behavior change to stop substance use and facilitate the recovery process.

  • Skills Groups

    Group therapy sessions, such as 12-Step program meetings, that can help you set up recovery strategies like distress tolerance and relaxation techniques that can assist with relapse prevention and thinking errors.

  • Seeking Safety Trauma Curriculum

    An evidence-based, present-focused counseling model that can help people find emotional safety from present trauma and/or substance abuse.

  • Alternative Therapies & Enhancements

    We pair our traditional therapy methods with alternative therapies and program enhancements, such as:

    • Music therapy/expression
    • Pet therapy
    • Spiritual Counseling
    • Gym recreation therapy and yoga
